The Surge of the State

Apparently, we don’t call the U.S. government’s bail out of Fannie and Freddie “the socialization of risk” or “nationalization”; we call it the “financial surge”. There is no problem you can’t solve with a big ol’ state surge: Iraq; Afghanistan; Wall Street; bad manners: the list goes on.
Surge is clearly becoming a useful synonym for any added burden on the taxpayer: the bigger the better. Perhaps people will be labeled “unpatriotic” for raising fears about the government’s seizure of F & F.
