Carolina Dreamin’

Dave Weigel at Reason has a good piece on the prospects for William Lawson’s campaign in North Carolina — great candidate, excellent campaign, but the dead weight of Bush (and record Democratic turnout for Obama) may be too much may be too much. This year, anyway.
Lawson is blunt about the problem here. “The party has been so weakened by the tragic mismanagement of our country these past eight years,” he explains. “Price has been running on Obama’s coattails and saying he wants to be part of a team for change. Well, I’m sorry, but you’ve been there for 20 years. You had your chance. It doesn’t make any sense for the voters to hire the guy who threw the brick through their window to fix the glass.”
Of course, the same things that are hurting Lawson ought to help Democratic Senate contender Bob Conley in South Carolina. Alas, there the Obama bump probably won’t be enough to rid us of Lindsey Graham. These are the two races I’ll be watching with the most interest tomorrow night.

What’s going on in South Carolina?
There’s a Democrat challenging a Republican from the right for a senate seat, a black republican running unopposed for a State House seat with his eye on the US Congress in 2010, and a socially conservative populace twice electing a man who is arguably the most libertarian governor in the country.
If only the rest of the country had politics like that!
We have been confronting Republicans and imploring them to NOT vote.
After the low-intensity war on working class people, and our environmental/social health–we have to actually kill the rightwing’s chances of ever coming to power again.
All KKK types are voting McCain. We will expose these anti-American extremists, bull their robes off and ridicule them. Make the American Taliban retreat to their caves, or back under their racist, anti-worker rockes.
Your insights into the minds of those ‘KKK types’ is so piercing! I know that it’s the result of research rather than just projection based on the exact opposite of your planned vote. I’d like to see some detailed info on these American Taliban, too, by the way. They sound dangerous. Good thing you’re on the job. Maybe Obama will hook you up with a position in the Secret Police.
Don’t worry!
If Senortor Traitor Graham manages to stay in power, we’ll be staying after him and fighting him the entire way.
It’s too bad we don’t actually prosecute and hang traitors like we used to back when the nation wasn’t full of sheep instead of citizens. It would make being a responsible voter a lot easier.
Your analysis of what’s missing in this country is almost as brilliant from the right as Steven’s was from the left.
That’s exactly what’s missing in this country: a pile of corpses belonging to people who don’t agree with you! I’m sure you could get around to killing all the corrupt people without letting the power go to your head. For example, you sound completely rational and calm right now. I wish someone could hand you a Nuclear Football right now, so rational and life-loving is your rhetoric.
