Damn you Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Chris Shays! Damn you all to hell!

The big tree house club meeting at Brent Bozell’s went exactly as I thought it would, a lot of sour grapes and talk about better organization. You really can’t expect much to get done when someone like Tony Perkins talks like this:
” The conservative leader Friday laid the Republican Party’s poor showing at the polls at the feet of moderates who, he argues, led the party away from its core principles
So in other words, it’s all Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, and Christopher Shays’ fault! Well, at least after this election, they won’t have Shays to kick around anymore.
You can count the number of “moderate” Republicans in Congress on one hand. They are neither Congressional leaders, nor were they in charge in the White House and very few are governors or state legislators. The idea that this minority wing of the party is somehow responsible for everything that’s gone wrong is not only silly, it’s a typical excuse made every time the GOP loses an election. It’s not our fault, say the “conservatives”, it’s the moderates fault! We have to take back the party!
Isn’t amazing that conservatives have to keep re-taking the Republican Party back every four to eight years?
Or perhaps the cause of their dismay is the fact current conservative ideology, which is hardly conservative at all in any real sense, simply cannot stand on its own as a national governing philosophy and quickly becomes right-wing social democracy as soon as the politics calls for it. Many politicians once reasonably described as “conservative” 20 to 30 to 40 years ago, travel down this path (Bob Dole is a good example. Lindsay Graham too.)
Instead of focusing on how to get the politics and the politicians back to a truer definition of conservatism, The Tree House Gang wishes to exorcise the ghosts of Nelson Rockefeller and Jacob Javits. It’s tempting to say these Beltway Conservatives need to look at themselves to find the answers to their problems but I figure Brent Bozell probably hid all the mirrors.

Lacerating, just lacerating! Great!
A little correction: It’s Olympia Snowe with an “e” at the end.
Note that I resisted the temptation to insert a Dan Quayle joke.
My apologies on the typo
The Republicans walked away from their principals and promises. It’s that simple. No more analysis required.

For the billionth time:
SUSAN COLLINS IS NOT A MODERATE. SHE VOTED 55-88% IN FAVOR OF GEORGE BUSH’S POLICIES OVER THE PAST 8 YEARS.
She only votes like a moderate the year before her reelection. This is also a technique of Olympia Snowe too.
Honestly, Susan Collins should have been kicked out this year, but as usual, the media here in Maine bands around her like a great lover and they refuse to report the truth about her. This is why she’s able to hold onto her seat, unfortunately.
I vehemently disagree with this short-sighted article. The recognizable congressional moderates (as noted & others) are on the edge of a partisan coalition (Republican Party) being gradually purged with each election (Chaffee in ‘06, Shays ‘08, etc) b/c they are not part of any movement. Moderates stand for nothing. Whereas, the comments made by Tony Perkins are spot-on b/c they identify conservatism in its proper context; a movement based upon core principles. Bottomline: many elected “conservatives” have not acted as conservatives during the last decade. The Bush administration has been fiscally moderate (at best). Perkins correctly assesses the need to return to the proven 3-pronged approach (fiscal, defense, and social conservatism) in all 50 states as embodied by Reagan conservatives. Whenever conservatism is on the ballot, it wins decisively (’80, ‘84, ‘94 as prime examples). Moderates are to blame, but wayward conservatives are primarily indicted for straying off principle. The incoming administration will quickly provide the catalyst for uniting the movement based upon a timeless core message and focusing it on the ‘10 midterms.
As a democrat I cant wait to have Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins working with the democrats in the future.
I can see many bipartisan votes, as a Dem I love both of these fine gals. Thank you Maine
Hey…any one with the Decency to start a big march on D.C. with this should. That’s about the only way to get noticed with these goons in Washington…thank goodness my Republican Conservative Congressman voted against this. Thank goodness he’s my Congressman.
Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins can be counted on to vote the way of the Left. They cave easily and forsake the true foundation of our country. They are voting to create a Socialistic/Communistic society rather than a Captialistic/Republic. That stimulus package will create more dependencies upon the government rather than self-reliance and ingenuity that Americans are known for. It will create a government that will continue to steal our hardearned money all the while they continue spending like kids with a credit card in a candy store - t’aint their money… it is just magically there.
I do not look at it as right or left - I look at how our country was formed and the guidelines put in place to keep us from doing exactly what we have done: Become an overtaxed, unlistened to populace that works to keep the gluttonous, obese politicians in the money.
Why are people afraid of being unique and forging our own way? We never used to be afraid of anything and we most certainly did not want to become like the ever-failing European countries. Now, we have people who strive to be like Europe and they want to take away our success. They even have us brainwashed into thinking we are evil, made horrid mistakes, etc. Just look into the true history of all of the countries of this world - compare them to the USA, then try to tell me we are a horrible country.
