Justice Denied?

Posted on May 29th, 2009 by Philip Giraldi

Ben-Ami Kadish, the US Army engineer who spied for Israel in the same ring that included Jonathan Pollard, was finally sentenced today in New York City.  Kadish had pleaded guilty after his arrest in December but for reasons not entirely clear his sentencing was repeatedly postponed.  He received no prison sentence and only a $50,000 fine.  The only time he spent in jail was the day he was arrested.  The judge said that he had done a very bad thing but that the government had only sought to convict him on reduced charges instead of espionage, hence the slap on the wrist.  I would note in passing that Kadish probably has a substantial pension from the US Army - almost certainly more than the fine - which he appears to retain.  The ultimate insult on top of injury - getting a pension for working for the US government while spying for someone else.  American justice works in strange ways.

  1. I once mentioned to some friends how bizarre and unfair it is that the Israelis can spy on the United States with virtual impunity. If the spies are caught, most of them would receive a slap on the wrist. Those friends commented to the effect that, well, Israel is an ally, not the Soviet Union or China. Though spying on the United States is wrong, we should treat Israeli spies differently than those who spy for other nations. Because, as we all know, Israel faces an existential threat from its neighbors.

Of course, these defenders assume the Israeli intelligence aparatus is 100% secure and therefore intelligence that may be vital to the security of the United States would not be compromised.

  2. I can’t help noticing that drudge and other right of center outlets saw fit to spike this story. The first I knew of this was reading it here. Thanks for the heads up, Philip. I guess it will take the loss of a city to terrorists to awaken the American public.

  3. There is a virtual news “blackout” on this story. There is nothing on CNN, FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC, etc. Based upon the the two AIPAC spies who were released, and now this one, it would appear that there is no punishment if you are an Israeli spy who steals our nuclear and missile secrets and passes them to MOSSAD. One of the rationales used for NOT punishing this 85-year old TRAITOR was his age. Funny, however, that we just deported a sick and dying 83-year old man back to Germany for being a suspected NAZI (when he was in his 20’s). That’s because Israel demanded it. They are now demanding that Pollard be released and sent home to Israel, to be reunited with his wife. It will happen.

  4. This is unbelievably sad.
