Vive La France!

Posted on June 26th, 2009 by Freddy Gray

After my recent blog rant against Sarkozy, a kind French woman has taken the trouble to put me right with the following reply:

What’s wrong with Sarko is that he is very short and walks like Charlie Chaplin trying to catch up with Hardy. Nothing wrong in wanting to dissuade every French woman from wearing the burka.

Bring on La Marseillaise.

  1. First, Charlie Chaplin never tried to “catch up with Hardy” - that was Stan Laurel, thank you very much.

Next, nothing wrong with French women rediscovering piousness, which some of us thing gives women a beauty all its own.

Third, French women can start giving out tips on personal appearance when they discover the razor - I’d prefer a woman in a burka to one who looked like she had Yahoo Serious in an armlock.

  2. Nergol: you shouldn’t be such a vulgar pedant.

  3. I agree with our charming Gallic correspondent on one point. I also cannot find anything wrong with a president trying to dissuade women from wearing the burka.

The difficulty is that he isn’t in much of a position to dissuade. As a head of state, he probably intends to coerce these women. And that isn’t cool, no matter how laudable his motives might be.

  4. Thank God that beautiful french women such as the one that Monsieur Gray quotes do not hide their charms under the Burqua, and sad it is that other beautiful french women do.
