At Hit & Run, Matt Welch points out a classic piece of so-bad-it’s-actually-quite-weird journalism, from that mustachioed hippopotamus of globo-lib twaddle, Thomas L Friedman:
How is it that a president who has taken on so many big issues, with very specific policies — and has even been awarded a Nobel Prize for all the hopes he has kindled — still has so many people asking what he really believes?
I don’t think that President Obama has a communications problem, per se. He has given many speeches and interviews broadly explaining his policies and justifying their necessity. Rather, he has a “narrative” problem. [...]
What is that narrative? Quite simply it is nation-building at home. It is nation-building in America. [...]
Wow. “Nation-building at home”? When do we send in the troops?

Combine Freidman, Dowd and Herbert and you get half a brain.
A lively shrine to Friedman as Nitwit can be found here:

@SteveM, I disagree. No matter how many times you add zero to itself, it never equals one half.
I have zero patience for any writer who places the form or source of something that has been said on equal footing with the content of that speech. Consequently, I tune out whenever “talking points” or “narratives” are referenced. Intellectually honest people simply don’t use such terms, at least not without irony. Friedman is especially outrageous in this regard; he actually seems to think he’s saying something when he speculates about what narrative Obama is trying to create.
Friedman is a ‘globo-lib’?
I don’t think that word means what you think it means. Dude is a neo-con, and an arsehole, but since those terms are hardly ever mutually exclusive, we’ll go with your “mustachioed hippopotamus” (which I am so stealing, your cheque is in the post) and leave it there.
These two slightly vulgar Matt Taibbi pieces are essential reading for those with a hunger for biting take-downs of said bloviator:

I can’t, for the life of me, imagine how anyone could take Friedman seriously.
My God, he’s right! Billions of taxpayer dollars handed over to political allies, the proven corrupt and incompetent, with little or no oversight, in desperation. Remember those pallets of cash bound for Iraq? Too bad we have no equal image to represent the Stimulus/Bailout regime. Years from now I imagine I’ll have trouble separating the two in my fading memory.
