Jack Hunter, columnist for the Charleston City Paper and “The Southern Avenger” personality for WTMA 1250 AM talk radio will soon be providing regular YouTube podcasts for our new TAC TV feature. Here’s a preview — Jack’s commentary for this week on Sarah Palin:

I agree that Ron Paul is a far more authentic, principled conservative, and Sara Palin pales in comparison. But here’s the problem. The Democrat (and Leftist) game is to promise the world to the electorate in order to gain power, and once in power, use the largesse and money-power of government to perpetuate their partisan advantage. In other words, the Left is willing to fight unfairly by using taxpayer money to buy its permanency — which begets a similar (unprincipled) response from the Right. Dick Cheney embraced and articulated this reality once he and Bush were elected by saying something along the lines of: “Now it’s our turn” (to use Big Government to our advantage).
So as soon as the Left starts fighting dirty and using the power of government to rig the game, it poisons the well. Since the entire design of the Left is to use taxpayer money to not only buy off the referees, but to buy off the media reporting on the game, and the team owners as well, any opposition that does not respond to some extent in kind is doomed to permanent minority (and eventually Gulag) status.
Until conservatives find a way to enforce the Constitutional limits on government and prevent Leftists from taking taxpayer money to tilt the playing field to their own advantage, they’d (seemingly) be crazy to put a libertarian in office who will unilaterally disarm, and probably be voted out of office next election cycle once the Left paints him as “heartless” for not throwing billions in taxpayer money at the first “emergency” to come down the pike
I think that’s a big reason someone like Palin gets better traction than someone like Paul on a national level on the Right.
North Dakota is going through the same thing. We have an incumbent leftist in Byron Dorgan, a rhino Gov in John Hoeven, and a lot of people not sure which way to turn. Many of them had been turing to the libertarians but that was a road littered with losses.
Finally a conservative rose up and decided to run against Dorgan. Paul Sorum is a Fargo businessman who finally said “enough is enough”. The guy has an exciting economic message and he actually “gets” the Constitution. I’m excited and a real grass roots effort is building. He’s saying the same things Palin says and I think like her, his popularity will continue to grow.
I’m volunteering and contributing for only the second time in my life. Check this guy out: http://www.paulsorum.com
Mr Hunter, rather than waste all that paper, maybe you could just blow hot air directly on the bottom of the birdcage.
Thursday, Dec 10th, 2009 – 65 miles from the big city, went to talk to the local banker.
“I was thinking of going over to NORMAN (Oklahoma), to see Sarah Palin, at 7 to 10 pm tonight, at the Hastings Bookstore.”
“Aw, don’t bother. My cousin said that they were literally lined up around several blocks this morning, and they were giving out tickets to the first 500. They gave those out before the sun rose, this morning.”
It strikes me that as all us TAC bloggers line up to denounce this lady as “irrelevant”, there are 3 possibilities:
#1 – she’s bad, and the US public is made up of mostly stupid people inferior in every way to ourselves (TAC Bloggers)
#2 – TAC “journalists” and bloggers are missing something
#3 – This is going to be a popular book because either Sarah Palin or the book itself are somehow of great value to those buying.
Just in case it is #1, above, we need to all get out and spew snark at Ms Palin, and the public in general.
