No War With Iran

Posted on July 15th, 2008 by Daniel Larison

Why anyone would be inclined to heed the requests of buffoons at lgf, I have no idea, but it is useful to remember that the thought policing of the conservative movement on matters related to Israel is constant, obnoxious and tiresome.  A war with Iran is actually in the interests of neither the Israeli people nor those of the American people, and it is not in the interest of the region as a whole, either.  Mr. Buchanan continues to do invaluable service to our country in making the necessary arguments against wars that are not in the national interest.  In his latest column, he said:

No ally, no client state, should ever be allowed to drag America into a war she has not chosen, constitutionally, to fight.

This is simply common sense and patriotism.

Update: The geniuses at lgf have put in a redirect on the first link above, so there’s no point in clicking on it.  Suffice it to say, they are calling for banning Pat Buchanan from Townhall.com.

  1. They’ve redirected traffic from this site to the IDF webpage. Pretty pathetic.

  2. Ha! That’s ridiculous. Could they be any more predictable?

  3. What exactly do the folks at LGF stand for?

  4. Aside from war? I’m not sure there is anything else.

  5. JBraunstein,

Genuflection towards all things Israeli, murderous hatred towards all things Islamic & Arab.

    And footballs.

  6. Buchanan’s cited column is excellent. He published a later one that ends in a peroration about Israel and what pat calls its Fifth Column in D.C.

That’s a rather infelicitous phrase, for all the wisdom Pat displays on the question of war with Iran. Alas, Pat has a schoolboy’s penchant for liking to shock. A Fifth Column, of course, is a hidden group ready to support the enemy at the gates, not those whose excessive sympathy for an ally leads them to advocate stupid or dangerous policies. General Mola suggested he had such a column inside Madrid during the Spanish Civil War to add to the four he had outside the city. He didn’t, but Madrid fell anyway.

Pat’s “Fifth Column” column is here.

  7. Thanks for the comment. I did link to the “Fifth Column” column as well–the word “continues” is hyperlinked to it, or at least it was.

  8. LGF is anti-paleo. To them Paul Belien and anyone chummy with him is an out-and-out neo-Nazi.

  9. Well, in that case I’m glad to be part of that club.
