Qatar is actually striking out as much more politically independent in recent years, especially from Saudi Arabia.

The deal to break the political impasse in Lebanon several months ago was brokered in Doha, which installed former army chief Michel Suleiman as President, badly embarrassing the neocons and the US/Saudi-backed March 14 coalition.
