   I continue to wonder why more intelligent conservative thinkers like yourself don’t go strong after Limbaugh more often. He seems like such a cancer in moving forward, and yet is still incredibly relevant. I keep waiting for some Murrow McCarthy moment.

   Well, I’ve called him a disgrace and more than a few other things beside that, and I would have no problem offering an indictment of what he represents, but I don’t think dissident bloggers can pack the punch you’re looking for. For the most part, his audience will rally to him even more strongly if he were attacked in those terms, and especially if it came from someone who has also been critical of Palin. That’s the predicament–the people who are most likely to criticize Limbaugh are the people his audience is probably least inclined to follow. I believe his audience has declined from what it was back in the ’90s; I hope that Obama’s administration does not provide him with a new boost.
