He is &quot;squishy&quot; in that he engages pro-choice arguments and doesn&#039;t immediately denounce the people who make them, which is why even a lot of people who reject his views find his arguments interesting.</description>

		<description>I&#039;ve been reading Douthat&#039;s blog and much of his work for the last five years, and I&#039;d be hard-pressed to point to anything that was &#039;squishy&#039; on pro-life issues. That was one of the major reasons I thought he might not get the New York Times position honestly (that and his age). My assumption is that there was some context missing from the &#039;squishy&#039; pro-life quote; at any rate, those unfamiliar with his work should take a look at it prior to criticizing him.</description>
