It will take time to the united state and the major powers to understand that the Kurdish people are the best tools to create democracy in Middle East ( and their economy also). By their cultural nature, they can not tolerate any types of hardliner, internally or externally and mostly they do prefer secularism system (even though they have been good Islam practitioner people). Establishment of federal system in turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria, especially in their Kurdish area will garnets more democracy, tolerance and freedom in those areas. As I recall even at the hard time after Iranian revolution and even under heavy security system, still the people of our area did not give up their ordinary freedom. When the people of the rest of Iran did not dare to listen to the music and even have video type at home, in our cities people have had man and women mix dancing on the streets. Even right now, the main power that softening Iraqi radicalism is Kurdish pressure.
It is hard to believe that most of Kurdish people preferring democracy and freedom, even before it became the western style of life and propaganda. So please do not blame that the Kurdish people are happy with recent unrest in Iran, in opposite most of our people worry about the future of our brothers in rest of the country. For me as a Kurd, Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria all are my countries and their people are, all my brothers. The only things that they have to know and learn is as much as we suffer from injustice, they will suffer more, and as much as they support us in our struggle to our basic rights, they will support democracy for themselves. We already showed that we are ready to pay for freedom and our basic right, so they have to learn nobody will give them back their right and respect if they do not pay and respect the other people rights.

Iraqi Kurds mostly belong to the Shaf school of Sunni Islam...Iranian Kurds are Shi'ia.
Perhaps all the separtist movements will eventually result in the dissolution of the arbitrary cross-tribal boundaries the evuul British colonial imperialists fabricated in the bad old days?

I recall reading somewhere that when Saddam invaded Iran he was expecting the Iranian Arabs to greet his forces as liberators. He found them disappointingly loyal to the regime, or the nation.

I also have the impression that Iranian Kurds haven't been nearly as restive as their brethren in Iraq and Turkey.

I'm not an expert on any of this. It would be interesting to have some more facts about the strength of separatist sentiments in Iran.

One thing that has been known to forge unity across ethnic disparity, is the common historical experience of resisting the same oppressor. Switzerland is a good example.

In any case, the people of Iran are struggling for their own freedom. I wish them well, and if a good outcome for them is bad for our interests, then so much the worse for our interests. That is, and should be, among the least of their worries.
