Irving Kristol, the godfather of neoconservatism, died today.
This is a poignant moment I have been anticipating for some time. Uniquely in all of history, Kristol was present for virtually the entire history of this revolutionary-totalitarian movement, easily equal to if not greater than its 20th century rivals, from its birth in the Trotskyist den of Alcove One to its likely demise at the hands of Barack Obama, the South Side state senator with an African name and disciple of Saul Alinksy who is proving the most cunning President of These United States since Richard Nixon.
I will save the out-and-out dancing over the grave for Norman Podhoretz, so let me just boast about the fact that I bought several of his books from Idle Time Books in Adams Morgan – including his inscribed copy of Michael Ledeen’s Freedom Betrayed, Irving Howe’s memoir A Margin of Hope, Max Green’s Epitaph for American Labor, and Alan Wald’s The New York Intellectuals.

I would not revel overmuch in this defeat if it means merely exchanging the revolutionary-totalitarian movement of Kristol for that of Alinsky’s. A few more such victories and we are undone.
Aye, Pons is right on this one. In fact, Kristol might be philosophically, at least, preferable to Alinsky.
I have never liked Trots but at least neocons were Trots who reacted *against post-modernism*.
How can you possibly elevate Alinsky in this way but out of a blind combination of anger and ignorance – whatever else he was he was a democrat and certainly a complete nebish compared to his violent new leftist contemporaries.
For God’s sake, how many foreign wars were inspired by Rules for Radicals?

Okay, fair point, Jack. I withdraw my comment.
