Did Obama give Washington’s Farewell Address?

That, anyway, is what our friends on the Commentary blog would have us believe about Obama’s speech at the UN today.  According to this, this, and this, Obama effectively declared that we no longer purport to lead a global democratic revolution and that our foreign policy shall be that most Hitlerian axiom “peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none.”  Needless to say, NRO and Pajamas Media are joining in the fun as well.

And perhaps they have a point.  As I wrote after the Cairo speech, Obama may be the first president since Herbert Hoover to seriously believe in the cause of peace.  If he comes across as internationalist, we do well to refer to the great scholar of isolationism, Justus Doenecke, who explained that the “isolationism” of Hoover and Taft was really best understood as Wilsonianism by more peaceful means.  And now Obama has ended the mad policy of antagonizing Russia and even leans toward winding down the Afghan war sooner than we could have hoped.

Now we just have to pray that the unholy alliance of Netanyahu and Ahmadinejad will be held off in starting World War III IV V.  Mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again!!!

  1. Why don’t you start with “I hate Jews” and go down from there? “Cause of peace”, my ass. We were at peace with Arabs till 9/11 – or so we thought. We actually went to wars to DEFEND Muslims (which we never did for Jews, BTW) – Kuwait, Somali, Bosnia, Kosovo. We sent the troops to protect this bastard kingdom of Saud. We brokered the deal that got Israel off Sinai. We pushed Israelis for more concessions to Arafat. For that, we’ve got the WTC graveyard. You think that if we’ll betray Eastern Europeans to Russia, Afghanistan and Pakistan to Al-Qaeda and Israel to Iran, we’ll have “peace”?! No, dumbass, we’ll have one more Pearl-Harbor.

  2. Yo John,

    Ever heard of USS Liberty?
