Anatomy of a Fisking

1. The Washington Post’s Ezra Klein conveniently argues that his employer needs government subsidies lest they should continue whoring themselves out to special interests; claims that the news is not a market good and that government-subsidized news in Sweden is adversarial and terrific.

2. Matt Welch pounces; points out that unlike wildlife viewing and snorkeling at coral reefs, the news is indeed “bought and sold directly”, and often has its observable monetary value printed right on the cover.

3. Michael Moynihan pounces, too; points out that all is not well with the Swedish papers or the similarly state-supported BBC.

  1. Oy vey.

  2. Our Founding Fathers would laugh – or whatever the polite form of mockery was in those days – in Ezra’s face. I wish he would read the first paragraph here:

    I second E.D. Oy-effing-vey.

  3. Someone could direct Ezra’s attention to the CBC too.
