(Apologies for the absurdly sparse blogging of late – the beginning of the semester has kept me quite busy since returning from New Jersey. Zombiepocalypse is definitely scenario in which I’m more than willing to break out the “overwhelming force”:
Even so, their analysis revealed that a strategy of capturing or curing the zombies would only put off the inevitable.
In their scientific paper, the authors conclude that humanity’s only hope is to “hit them [the undead] hard and [...]

That’s Andrew Sullivan’s word for Robert Gibbs’s description of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the “elected leader” of Iran. Ooooookay. Because what we really need from the White House right now is a bunch of empty moralistic grandstanding that will play directly into the hands of the very people we’re trying to keep in line. Pointless interference [...]

In Slate, Jacob Weisberg argues that a proper misguided desire to avoid the foreign policy mistakes of the Bush years is at the root of Obama’s decision not to make loud but empty gestures that will do no good on matters where America has no interest or authority “stand up for the broader ideas of [...]

Normally David Goldman (”Spengler”) is astute, or at least astute enough to require serious thought in grappling with his arguments. But about this latest, I just don’t know where to begin. So, to sum up:
Iran does not have the right to produce even token amounts of its own nuclear fuel, even under strict U.N. scrutiny.
Russia does not have the right to a sphere of influence in Eastern Europe.
The U.S. has the right to project its power at will, and to dictate the foreign and domestic affairs [...]

Plunging squarely into one of the most sensitive issues in the Middle East, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. suggested on Sunday that the United States would not stand in the way of Israeli military action aimed at the Iranian nuclear program.
The United States, Mr. Biden said in an interview broadcast on ABC’s “This Week,” [...]

As I mentioned in an update below, Haaretz is reporting that the U.S. is working to block the G8 from imposing financial sanctions against Iran at next week’s meeting, which is good enough (and, frankly, surprising enough) news that it deserves a post of its own. The report is being met with criticism from the [...]

So the New York Times editorial board seems to have reached a position on engagement with Iran that is every bit as stupid and internally incoherent as the one proposed the other day by the paper’s own Roger Cohen. While Cohen moved seamlessly from proclaiming in one breath that Obama should “refrain indefinitely from talk [...]
